South Dakota's oldest candidate for the state legislature did not earn a seat in the House. Ninety-two-year-old Dorothy Kellogg lost the election to two Watertown Republicans.
Kellogg was the lone Democrat on the ballot for the District 5 House seat. She wasn't planning to run for office but Democrats in the Watertown area submitted her name as a place holder and didn't remove her name before the deadline.
Despite the circumstances that got her on the ballot, Kellogg is happy it happened.
"Yes I am. It's like a thank you, a last 'thank you' or something for a good time. You know, it's a good feeling," Kellogg said.
Kellogg had served in the legislature so her opponents said the race had the feeling of three incumbents fighting for two house seats.
