VERMILLION, SD -

More than 500 students were evacuated from a dorm on the University of South Dakota campus late Monday night when a water pipe broke.

That forced officials to shut off both the water and power at Coyote Village.  A large part of the dorm flooded.

USD Vice President Jeff Baylor says students were taken to the Student Center while officials worked to arrange hotel rooms for as many as possible.

The cause of the pipe break has not been determined but the school is working to re-open the dorm as soon as possible.

We're in Vermillion this morning and will bring you updates on how students are handling the break today on KELOLAND News.
