A Christmas day stand off in Vermillion comes to an end.
Authorities say Tuesday's standoff in Vermillion ended after they found the suspect dead in his home. It started in the early hours in the morning when the armed man held his two children against their will in his home for about three hours.
The suspect later released his children around 4:30 a.m.
It ended around 1:30 when police found the man dead in his home of a single self-inflected gunshot wound.
The whole ordeal lasted just over 12 hours.
Officials say it started after the suspect’s wife called authorities after a domestic dispute.
Authorities from around the area flocked to help Vermillion Police with today's standoff.
"Vermillion Police put out an all hands call and literally almost everybody that was called showed up despite that it was Christmas Day,” Vermillion Police Chief Matthew Betzen said.
