It started with a burglary and ended with a four-hour standoff on the north side of Sioux Falls.
Authorities say David Jeremy Neuroth Junior barricaded himself inside a home in northern Sioux Falls but was taken into custody before 4 p.m.
Neuroth was wanted by authorities for a burglary in town Tuesday night at a home on 9th Avenue. The victims locked themselves in a bathroom while calling 911. They did say they knew Neuroth, who was armed with a gun, had broken the window to the front door to try to get in.
Overnight, Minnehaha County authorities put out an alert saying that Neuroth was wanted. They tracked him to a home near E 69th Street North and Golden Nugget Avenue.
Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead says authorities were cautious when approaching the home because Neuroth had used a gun in the earlier crime. They tried to negotiate with Neuroth and ended up using a flash bang as a diversion to get his attention. Authorities did have to take out a window and used the Bearcat to remove the front door to the home.
Neuroth will face a number of charges.
The standoff impacted dismissal at some Brandon Valley schools. All students in the Northern Heights Neighborhood were held at Fred Assam Elementary School. Brandon Valley High School and Middle School students had to be bused there as well and that is where parents were asked to pick up their children.
