A mother who lost three children in a Sioux Falls house fire faces drug charges.
Court documents say that the day after Christmas, investigators were interviewing Rhiannon White when she presented them with her medical records following her hospital visit after the fire. She said the documents said there were narcotics in her system she could not account for, namely meth and ecstasy.
Investigators continued to question her and she originally said the last time that she did meth was 14 years ago and then she admitted to doing meth in 2009.
When detectives talked to White's sister, she said that she got a text message from White just hours before the deadly fire on December 22 saying that White had just stopped by her 'drug dealers' house after leaving a bar.
In a second interview with detectives at the beginning of January, White told them she did meth two days before the fire in a hotel on North Cliff Avenue.
She told investigators that she took the drug because she was run down and tired and felt like 'superwoman' when she took the drug and 'she could take care of the kids.' Medical records obtained by police also show she had marijuana in her system at the time of the fire.
If convicted of both charges she faces 20 years in prison.
White's three children died in a house fire on December 22. The fire at the home on North Main Avenue grew so quickly that firefighters were not able to resuce 16-year-old Michael Hensely, 12-year-old Savannah Coon and six-year-old Alivia Coon.
