Skating Rinks Close Before Frosty Frolics Weekend
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Weather conditions could impact some events planned for the weekend-long Frosty Frolics in Sioux Falls.

The city announced Thursday that it was closing all six outdoor skating rinks, two hockey rinks and warming houses because of the weather. They'll re-open when the ice conditions improve; temperatures are expected to begin dropping again Friday night.  The city planned to offer free ice skate rentals at all rinks Friday through Sunday for Frosty Frolics.

The weekend of activities organized by the Parks and Recreation Department begins Friday with $5 tubing at Great Bear Recreational Park.

On Saturday, families can participate in ice fishing, indoor games, crafts, sleigh rides, learn more about the sport of curling, and more.

On Sunday, the events wrap up with snowboarding and skiing races at Great Bear.  At the Memorial Ice Rink, families can take advantage of photo opportunities with the Stampede Hockey Team, a visit by the Zoomobile and a Carnival on Ice.

You can monitor the Parks and Recreation Department's website for the latest on the ice rink closures.
