Trooper Steen's Recovery & Timeline Of Events
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

It has been an emotional seven weeks for family and friends of South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Andrew Steen.

Steen was rushed to the hospital on the morning of October 17 after being run over by a suspected drunk driver.

Steen suffered a serious head injury and broken ankle. Doctors removed a portion of Steen's skull to relieve pressure on his brain and put him in a medically induced comma.

Two days later, on October 19, several charges were filed against 25-year-old Rachel Coleman including attempted murder in the first degree, aggravated assault on law enforcement and a fourth DUI.

On October 23, Steen went back into surgery, this time to repair his broken and dislocated right ankle.

At the end of October, doctors started bringing Steen out of his coma and were able to take him off a ventilator.

On November 1, Coleman was arrested in the case and appeared before a judge. Prosecutors say Coleman's blood-alcohol level was still .079, four hours after the incident occurred.

The week of Thanksgiving, Steen was able to eat on his own and had his feeding tube removed.

Last week, doctors told Steen and his family that a portion of his skull could be replaced this week, months ahead of schedule what doctors initially predicted.

Family and friends hope to have Steen home in time for Christmas.
