New Year's Eve Fireworks Sales Slow
TEA, SD -

Time is running out to take advantage of New Year's Eve fireworks sales.

This is the second year in a row that people can buy and light off fireworks through New Year's Day.

Fireworks stands hoped sales this year would prove stronger than last year's sluggish start.  Unfortunately, most retailers we checked with say they haven't seen the holiday boom in business that they had been counting on.

Still, they admit any sales this time of year can help the bottom line.

"It's nice for us as a retailer to have the option of opening New Year's Eve to offer fireworks as a form of entertainment and for also a little additional revenue for business," Kevin Lorenzen of Pyro City said.

Sales continue until 7 p.m. Monday night. There are some public fireworks displays planned at midnight across KELOLAND, including at Great Bear in Sioux Falls.

This is actually the third year South Dakota has allowed fireworks sales for the New Year's celebration; the first time was to ring in the Millenium.
