Morning Fire Leaves Eight Families Homeless
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

An early morning apartment fire in Sioux Falls has left eight families homeless.

Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue crews were called to the apartment fire near 41st Street and West Avenue around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Crews contained the fire in just 15 minutes, saving most of the building from extensive damage. The unit in the lower level where the fire started has the worst damage.

Fire Investigators say someone was cooking in that unit and wasn't watching didn't watch their dish when it started on fire.  A man in the apartment tried to put it out with his fire extinguisher and when he realized it wasn't going to work, he called 911.

The Red Cross is helping those who lived there.  No one was hurt.

We'll have more from the fire department surrounding this apartment fire tonight on KELOLAND News.
