Parade Reveals Sioux Falls-Made Balloons
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

A South Dakota company helped create and manufacture the new balloons in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Wall Street Journal featured a character known as "Companion" when it was filled for its maiden flight inside the Sioux Falls Arena.

Raven Aerostar worked with graffiti artist Brian Donnelly, also known as KAWS, to bring the balloon to life.  It measures 41-feet long, 24-feet wide, and 28-feet tall.  It's part of the "Blue Sky Gallery series" which started in 2005.

After Thursday's parade, the balloon will travel the world and will be on display in museums and other public spaces.

A team from Macy's Parade Studio collaborates with Aerostar to transform drawings into a balloon.  When it's constructed out of polyurethane fabric, undergoes several tests indoors and outdoors before taking flight in the parade.

Other balloons made in Sioux Falls include The Elf on the Shelf, Papa Smurf and Hello Kitty aboard her airplane.

Hello Kitty, with her 1970's retro airplane design, stands at 36-feet tall, 38-feet wide and 50-feet long. The parade's official website says that's as wide as 226 taxi cabs and as long as 259-bicycles.  It takes ten people to move Hello Kitty down the route.

Papa Smurf measures 51-feet tall, 36-feet wide and 46-feet long.

Elf on the Shelf measures 46-feet tall, 28-feet wide and 64-feet long.
