Thanksgiving is less than a day away and millions of Americans are hitting the roads and skies to spend the day with family and friends. AAA says some 43.6 million Americans will travel for the holiday one way or another. That's up slightly from last year.
They also say the number of South Dakotans traveling is up around 1 percent to 145,000 people.
However, air travel is expected to be down. AAA says that 3.2 million Americans took to the skies last year. This year only 3.14 million are expected to fly. That number is also down 1.6 percent for South Dakota where 6,000 people are expected to travel by air.
On a positive note, AAA says airfare is down around 11 percent nationwide from last year.
