It's been nearly four weeks since a drunk driver is accused of running over South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Andrew Steen in the parking lot of a Sioux Falls strip mall.
The driver, 25-year-old Rachel Coleman, is charged with attempted murder while Steen recovers in the hospital.
According to a Facebook page created for Trooper Steen, he continues to make strides towards a remarkable recovery. Steen's family posted that one doctor has not seen this kind of progress in his 30 years of medicine.
Steen suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was run over on October 17 but now he is awake and even able to check e-mails on his iPad.
Tuesday, friends and family are holding a benefit for Steen at the Artist Hair Studio in Tea. A 'cut-a-thon,' raffle and bake sale are scheduled from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Tonight on KELOLAND News we'll talk with organizers about how this benefit will help out Steen and his family as he continues to recover.
