SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Drivers in Sioux Falls have been looking forward to the end of this year’s construction season. But with a new project on the horizon it seems the end is far from over.

A new construction project may cause even more headaches for drivers in Sioux Falls. Beginning Friday, crews will be working on Louise Avenue from 41st Street to 34th Street.

With the holiday season just around the corner, this area around the mall tends to get even busier. That's why crews are hoping to get this work done as soon as possible. And for drivers, it's an added stress.

"I probably won't drive it. I will probably try to go around it, I don't like construction. I don't like driving on construction. But I will try to avoid it as much as possible," driver Lisa Compson said.

For Compson, Louise Avenue isn't completely avoidable since she lives nearby. But she says she understands the need for repairs.

"Well they have to do what they have to do and if it has to be, it has to be. They have to do it just four days, they can't help it. Nobody can help; it’s their job," Compson said.

The city of Sioux Falls is hoping all drivers have patience because this work has to be done.

"The work that we have going on Louise is actually just to repair some damage that was done earlier this year when we had a water main break, so we are going out in the morning to saw the existing concrete," Sioux Falls City Street Engineer Wes Philips said.

This will force officials to close the southbound lane not only Friday, but next week as well.

"If people realize that it's down to one lane maybe they can take a detour, but I guess if you have to take it patience is a virtue," Compson said.

Crews will head out here this morning after the morning rush and close down one lane, they have decided to open back up for this weekend but come Monday they will close the southbound lane once again until Thursday.
