Indoor Aquatic Center Petition Drive
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Sioux Falls voters could have a say in whether an indoor aquatic center is built at Spellerberg Park or somewhere else in the city.

Tuesday, the group named Citizens Saving Spellerberg voiced its concern with placing an indoor aquatic center in their neighborhood park.

The group initially wanted to build the facility there, but is now concerned with how much parking, street widening and green space would be eaten up by such a large facility.

“Simply, the Spellerberg Park is not big enough. There's not enough land to build the planned aquatic center,” Citizens Saving Spellerberg Park spokesperson Charlie Roberts said.

The group claims an indoor facility would take up half of the green space currently available at the park and that parking wouldn't be sufficient.

The group is starting a petition drive and hopes to get more than 5,000 signatures so voters can help decide the issue next spring.
