SIOUX FALLS, SD -
The man who was arrested Friday for raping a 15-year-old girl has a lengthy criminal history. Police say 32-year-old Mark Christians met the teenager online after he pretended to be a 15-year-old girl on a social network website.
Christians faces second- and fourth-degree rape charges for the crime that police say happened just before New Year's Eve.
While Christians was posing as a 15-year-old girl online, he became friends with another 15-year-old girl. According to court papers, Christians invited the teen to a party. When they met up, he took her to his house, gave her alcohol and raped her.
But even before Christians has his day in court on these most recent allegations, he already has the possibility of spending two years in prison because last April he pleaded guilty to his third DUI, which is a felony. All of Christians' prison time was suspended as long as he was on good behavior for two years. However, if he's convicted on these new charges, he could end up serving that prison time as well.
But that's not the only felony Christians has been found guilty of. He has a 38-page criminal record in South Dakota including an Aggravated Assault conviction in 2008 in Lincoln County. He was originally charged with rape in that case as well, but those charges were dropped and he was found guilty of aggravated assault.
Another mark on Christians' record dates back to 2002 when he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault in Minnehaha County.
Christians now faces more than 50 years in prison if he's convicted in this most recent case.
