South Dakota Man Honored For Army Guard Work
RAPID CITY, SD -

A Rapid City man has been honored for his contributions to advancing the Army National Guard.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Raymond Carpenter was awarded the Lt. Gen. Raymond S. Mclain Medal during the opening ceremonies of the Association of the United States Army's annual meeting last month.

Carpenter spent more than two years as acting director of the Army National Guard. During that time, he was responsible for executing a budget of nearly $40 billion, procuring equipment, and recruiting and mobilizing soldiers.

Carpenter also oversaw the deployment of troops to Afghanistan and to help with relief efforts for the Joplin tornado and the Gulf oil spill.
