Pennington County authorities still are taking care of 23 of the nearly 70 horses they seized last week just east of Rapid City.
Donald and Terry Harwood rented the land the horses were on and are accused of neglecting the animals. But they did not own all the horses.
The sheriff's office spent the past week identifying horses and finding some owners and found suitable placements for others.
Authorities are now looking for the owners of the remaining impounded horses.
The criminal investigation is ongoing.
