Spearfish Man Likely Died Of Hypothermia

Authorities say a 23-year-old Spearfish man found dead over the weekend a short distance from his abandoned vehicle likely died of hypothermia.

Lawrence County chief deputy Joe Harmon says that further testing is being conducted, but initial findings from Monday's autopsy of Jerald Krejci are consistent with hypothermia.

A snowplow operator found Krejci's body on Saturday. The man's vehicle had become stuck after sliding off a private road northwest of Spearfish.

A strong winter storm passed through the region on Friday and Saturday.
