Some Lakota children in South Dakota had their Christmas wishes granted early this year.
The third annual Lakota Kids Christmas was Sunday in Rapid City, during which children such as six-year-old Elexia Winters got to meet Santa Claus.
She got what she'd been hoping for: a shiny new bike.
The Christmas party was a mix of Lakota children, homeless people, mother and children from local shelters and anyone else who wanted to join.
James Swan, president and founder of the United Urban Warrior Society, says the event is about humanism and community. He says the doors were open to everyone because "the Lakota way is to not put people in boxes."
The event fed close to 300 people and gave presents to each child who came.
