Rapid City Man Gets Jail Time For Pedestrian Fatal

A driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Rapid City about a year ago has been sentenced to serve 100 days in jail for drunken driving.

Fifty-eight-year-old Kenneth Williams initially had been charged with manslaughter in the December 2011 death of 51-year-old Terry Brown. Prosecutors dropped the charge, citing a lack of evidence and the fact that South Dakota law does not consider drunken driving to be reckless by itself.

Authorities said Williams' blood-alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit for driving. Defense attorney Tim Rensch said Brown was walking in the dark and wearing dark clothing when he tried to cross a street in an area that was not designated as a crosswalk.
