PIERRE, SD -
Two people have pleaded not guilty to stealing money from a Pierre bank.
Ismael Espinoza Ortiz and Alejandra Corral Madrid have entered not guilty pleas to one count each of bank larceny.
The man and woman, who are described as a couple, are accused of stealing more than $1,000 from a BankWest branch in early November.
Defense lawyers for both told a federal court judge on Friday that they would not ask for bail at this time. The judge also denied a prosecutor's request that the couple not be able to communicate while in custody. He cautioned them that any communication they have with each other while in the Hughes County Jail could be used against them.
Their next court hearing is Jan. 8.
