Teenager Held Without Bond On Murder Charge

PIERRE, SD -

A 16-year-old Pierre boy charged with first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of a friend will continue to be held in custody without bond.

Braiden K. McCahren made his initial court appearance Thursday after being charged with murder for Tuesday's shotgun slaying of 16-year-old Dalton Williams.

Circuit Judge John Brown ordered that McCahren continue to be held without bond after the boy's lawyer did not request that any bond be set.

McCahren is charged as an adult, but the judge told him he has the right to try to have the case handled in juvenile court. His lawyer, Brad Schreiber, declined to say whether he will seek to have the case tried in juvenile court.

McCahren could get life in prison if convicted of murder in adult court.
