Transportation Chief Coming To Pierre For Ceremony
PIERRE, SD -

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Sen. Tim Johnson will be in Pierre Wednesday for the grand opening of the newly expanded River Cities Public Transit facility.

The ceremony is set for 10:45 a.m. at the facility at Dakota and Harrison avenues.

This event was scheduled for August, but was canceled after Johnson's wife was injured in a fall.

The new building, constructed with the help of $3.9 million in federal transit funds, includes a new dispatch center, offices and a bus garage.

River Cities Transit executive director Ron Baumgart calls the ceremony a major milestone in the history of River Cities Transit.
