A legislative committee studying oil and gas issues is meeting in two northwestern South Dakota communities this week to hear from landowners worried about the impacts of energy development.
The oil and gas boom in western North Dakota already is impacting northwest South Dakota counties, as workers move back and forth. The effects will multiply if oil and gas fields in South Dakota are expanded and new fields are developed.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard has established a task force to study how to prepare for oil development. The Oil and Gas Study Interim Committee is taking a more specific look at impacts to private land. The group meets Monday afternoon in Buffalo and Tuesday morning in Bison.
