Janklow Records To Date Back To Rosebud Days
MITCHELL, SD -

Efforts to preserve records from the late Gov. Bill Janklow's career will date back to his days as a public defender on the Rosebud Indian Reservation.

University of South Dakota interim dean of libraries Daniel Daily says the archives also will include information from Judge Jeff Davis, who witnessed the American Indian Movement trials in the 1970s.

Janklow worked as a prosecutor for the South Dakota Attorney General's Office and Davis worked as a law clerk during the AIM trials. Davis says he will donate his papers and be interviewed.

Former Janklow chief of staff, Dave Knudson, and his wife, De Knudson, also have donated papers to the project.

The collection will include digital newspaper archives and restored video recordings of Janklow speeches.
