Two rounds of severe weather pelted the Mitchell area within half an hour Saturday morning - bringing strong winds, rain and golf-ball-sized hail. The destruction damaged nearly every vehicle at Iverson Chrysler Center in Mitchell.
"It was utter destruction for four or five minutes. I've never seen anything like it. It was incredible," General Manager Tim Hurll said.
The most severe destruction blew out windows in cars and left gaping holes in others.
Employees were able to save 15 cars but hundreds more on the lot were pelted by the storm.
And while it's too soon to tell how much the damage will cost the dealership, Hurll estimates more than $1 million.
"They are all beat up pretty good. We are going to have to see what the estimates say. We are going to get appraisers and insurance people in. It's several thousand dollars in every vehicle and there are 300 to 350, depending on what day it is," Hurll said.
Hurll says they will deeply discount the damaged vehicles starting Monday; otherwise they will pay to fix the others.
