MITCHELL, SD -
The head of the McGovern Center for Leadership and Public Service at Dakota Wesleyan University is resigning.
Donald Simmons is leaving his position as director of the center to pursue other opportunities.
Simmons joined the DWU faculty in 2006 as the first full-time director of the McGovern Center and the founding chairman of the DWU Department of Leadership and Public Service.
He says that with the recent death of former Sen. George McGovern and the change in leadership at DWU, he thinks it is best to seek other career opportunities. McGovern passed away at age 90 in October. DWU President Bob Duffett recently announced he is taking a job at a Pennsylvania university.
Simmons will remain at DWU through the current academic year.
