Mitchell House Fire Under Investigation
MITCHELL, SD -

A 59-year-old woman is dead and three others injured after the trailer they were staying in caught fire early Saturday morning in Mitchell.

Officials got the call shortly after 4 a.m. and arrived on the scene to a fully engulfed trailer home on West 2nd Avenue.

Four people were inside at the time. The three who got out were taken to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. But, one person didn't make it.

Anytime there's a fatality, it's something that's very unfortunate and our hearts and prayers go out to the family on this,” Mitchell Public Safety Chief Lyndon Overweg said.

Within an hour crews had almost completely knocked out the fire.

This is the second trailer home fire in Mitchell in the past week. And while it's been a tough time for the community, Overweg says they'll get through it together.

Mitchell is a very resilient community. They rally behind and they come to each other's aid. We've seen that in the past and there's no doubt that will happen this time also," Overweg said.

Four families in the surrounding area were also evacuated from their home Saturday morning.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
