MBK: Fiegen And Dykstra Lead Jacks To 81-74 Win
BROOKINGS, SD -

Tony Fiegen scored a career-high 24 points and Jordan Dykstra added 22 points and a career-high 13 rebounds to lead South Dakota State past Oakland on Thursday night in Summit League action at Frost Arena.

“Obviously Tony was a willing shooter tonight, it was clear that they were going to give him jump shots and he jumped up and shot it,” head coach Scott Nagy said. “I’m probably most proud of Jordan, just because in big moments, he wanted the ball. He had big rebounds, he had big defensive plays, and I’m really proud of the way he played tonight.”

The Jackrabbits improve to 12-6 overall with the win and to 3-2 in The Summit League, while Oakland falls to 7-11 overall and to an even 2-2 in the league.

In addition to the big nights from Fiegen and Dykstra, the Jackrabbits got 16 points and nine assists from Nate Wolters and 11 points from Chad White.

“We’ve had good wins this year, but in terms of a team win, that is by far the best one we’ve had this year, and I went down the line in our he locker room and every guy had tremendous contributions,” Nagy added. “You think about Taévaunn Prince and Jake Bittle making those free throws late, Chad jumps up and makes a huge three for us, Brayden Carlson was tremendous.”

The first half of the game featured nine ties and six lead changes before the Golden Grizzlies took a 37-35 lead into the locker room, but not before Wolters hit a floater at the buzzer to cut the deficit to just two at the break.

The second half looked much like the first, with six more ties and seven more lead changes before the Jacks took the lead for good on a Dykstra jumper with 10 minutes and seven seconds left in the game, part of a 13-1 Jackrabbit run that ended with the home team up 63-54 with 8:22 to play.

Oakland would cut the lead to as few as two points down the stretch, but never regained the lead.

Corey Petros led Oakland in the loss with 22 points and led all players with 15 rebounds. Travis Bader added 21 and Ryan Bass 15 points.

The Jackrabbits look to start a winning streak on Saturday, when they host Fort Wayne in the 21st Annual Lamb Bonanza at Frost Arena at 4 p.m. The Mastodons fell at North Dakota State on Thursday by a 67-55 score.
