A Volga man is dead after his tractor hit a train west of Brookings on Friday.
Authorities say 71-year-old Stanley Hesby was driving a Ford farm tractor and pulling two full carts of corn, when the tractor was struck by a Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad locomotive
The impact tore the tractor cab from the rear axle, ejecting Hesby who suffered fatal injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
