An Aberdeen man who led officers on a chase in a stolen car before climbing an electrical transmission tower to avoid arrest has been sentenced.
27-year-old Christopher Carroll pleaded guilty Thursday to grand theft, aggravated eluding and domestic simple assault. Other charges were dropped.
Carroll was sentenced to serve five years in prison, fined nearly $1,300 and ordered to pay about $1,100 in restitution.
Authorities say Carroll on June 10 led officers on a foot chase when they responded to a domestic dispute call, then stole a car and fled from the officers. They say he abandoned the vehicle in the Westport area, led officers on another foot chase, swam across the Elm River and climbed the tower. Officers coaxed him down with cigarettes.
