Growing up I always dreamed of becoming a news anchor. As a little girl I would watch the local news with my family at night and practice my own "news voice" in front of the television. I was always fascinated by the power the news held, and how the stories they told could change the lives of so many.
I was raised in a very small town in Central Iowa that most people, even Iowans, have never heard of called LeGrand. I decided to take on a new adventure after high school and went to college in the South at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.
While at Harding I was given the incredible opportunity to anchor, report and even try my hand at weather forecasting and sports for the University's live nightly newscast, Live at Five. I was honored with the "Broadcast Journalism Student of the Year" award my senior year.
After college my husband, Jon, and I moved to Little Rock where I worked as an Associate Producer at KLRT News. While at KLRT, I got a first-hand experience of what it's like to work in a fast-paced newsroom. I worked with some very talented veterans of the news field and learned a lot very quickly!
After Little Rock we decided to head back up North! I took a job in Mankato, Minnesota, as the Fox Mankato News at 9 anchor/producer. While in Mankato I took on several different roles in the newsroom. I was the producer and video editor of my own show. I also worked as a Multi-Media Reporter, shooting and editing my own local stories on a daily basis.
While I enjoyed my time in Mankato, I am beyond thrilled to be working at KELOLAND! I have always heard about the great legacy the station holds in the community, and I am honored to take on the role of evening anchor. If there are any news stories you want to throw my way, I'd love to hear them! I can't wait to explore Sioux Falls, and travel around this great state! Email Sammi
