SIOUX FALLS, SD - The University of Sioux Falls is proud to announce 15 student-athletes as part of the 2010 recruiting class. The Cougars expect to add more players to the class over the coming weeks. Eight high school signees and seven college transfers make up the initial USF football recruiting class. The group will face the task of replacing 20 graduating seniors that posted a 56-1 overall record and won three NAIA national championships during their career. They will also help guide the program from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II ranks.

Tait Johannsen
Hometown: Wagner, SD
Height: 6’3
Weight: 220 lbs
Position: Tight End
Notes on Johannsen: Johannsen was one of the top prep tight ends in the state and figures to play a large role in the transition to NCAA Div II competition.

Thad Cambell
Hometown: Platte, SD
Height: 6’0
Weight: 195 lbs
Position: Defensive Back
Notes on Cambell: Cambell was a dual threat for the Black Panthers playing running back and outside linebacker. At USF Thad will look to be part of a dominant defensive tradition.

Joel Martens
Hometown: Hartford, SD
Height: 5’8
Weight: 175 lbs
Position: Defensive Back
Notes on Martens: Martens was an integral part of the State Champion teams in 2007 and 2008 for the Tri Valley Mustangs. Martens will look to be a contributor for the Cougars at Cornerback.

Mitch Breen
Hometown: Wagner, SD
Height: 5’8
Weight: 175 lbs
Position: Athlete
Notes on Breen: Breen was a multiple year 1,000 yard rusher for Wagner, while leading from the defensive side of the ball as well. Breen will make the transition to defensive back as well as a return specialist for the Cougars.

Tyler Swanson
Hometown: Grand Island, NE
Height: 6’1
Weight: 285 lbs
Position: Offensive Line
Notes on Swanson: Swanson helped lead Grand Island to Nebraska Class A state Quarterfinals. Swanson was a dominant defensive lineman for the Islanders but will make the transition to Offensive Line for the Cougars.

Rob Voshell
Hometown: Sartell, MN
Height: 6’1
Weight: 185 lbs
Position: Athlete
Notes on Voshell: Voshell was listed as The Times Minnesota Player of the Year as well as being listed on the Minnesota All State team. Voshell is one of the most versatile athletes the Cougars signed this year. He is slated to play Defensive Back for the Cougars.

Michael Tolkamp
Hometown: Lawton, IA
Height: 6’4
Weight: 220 lbs
Position: Outside Linebacker
Notes on Tolkamp: Tolkamp figures to be an imposing force for the Cougars for years to come. His combination of size, speed, and athleticism make him a natural fit into the active Cougar defense.

Brandon Madsen
Hometown: Maccray, MN
Height: 5’10
Weight: 175 lbs
Position: Wide Receiver
Notes on Madsen: Brandon joins his brother Brock, also a receiver, on the USF football team. Brandon will look to contribute as a wide receiver and be valuable asset on the special teams.

Eric Berry
Previous School: Wake Forest University
Height: 6’3
Weight: 255 lbs
Position: Linebacker
Notes on Berry: A national high school All-American, Berry had 140 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumbles recovered and four pass breakups as a senior…listed as the country's No. 86 linebacker by TheInsiders.com. Berry played 25 games for the Demon Deacons over two seasons, recording a season-high eight tackles at Ole Miss along with a tackle for loss and a forced fumble.

Joey Frias
Previous School: University of Nebraska-Omaha
Height: 6’3
Weight: 215 lbs
Position: Quarterback
Notes on Frias: Frias played quarterback for College of the Canyons in 2007/2008 before playing wide receiver for the Mavericks. Frias bring a run/pass threat and will look to compete for the vacancy at quarterback left by 2009 NAIA Player of the Year Lorenzo Brown.

Royce Culp
Previous School: Arizona Western
Height: 6’5
Weight: 240 lbs
Position: Defensive Line
Notes on Culp: Culp is a long levered Defensive End that looks to make an immediate impact for USF.

Eric Ivarsson
Previous School: College of the Canyons
Height: 6’5
Weight: 245 lbs
Position: Defensive Line
Notes on Ivarsson: Ivarsson will have three years for the Cougars. He looks to develop into a force on the defensive side of ball.

Roger Garcia
Previous School: Glendale Community College
Height: 6’5
Weight: 290lbs
Position: Offensive Line
Notes on Garcia: Garcia looks to fill the vacancy made by all-American left tackle Kyle Staudt. Garcia will be the anchor on the left side of the line.

Zac Holmes
Previous School: Arizona Western
Height: 6’0
Weight: 210 lbs
Position: Linebacker
Notes on Holmes: Holmes is very active and fast linebacker that is expected to make plays sideline to sideline.

Steven London
Previous School: College of the Canyons
Height: 5’10
Weight: 185 lbs
Position: Wide Receiver
Notes on London: London looks to add depth to the wide receiver corps and is a physical playmaker.
