It was a rough opener for No. 15 University of Sioux Falls women’s basketball team, as they were upended by Dakota State, 67-48, Tuesday night in Madison, S.D.

USF (0-1) struggled offensively from the outset, as they shot 34.5 percent from the field (19-55) and were only 7-13 from the free-throw line.

Four players led the Cougars with eight points, sophomore Elizabeth Hildreth (Norwalk, Iowa), sophomore Becky Christofferson (Summit, S.D.), junior Chelsa Baxa (Herrick, S.D.) and junior Dominique Schuler (Breckenridge, Minn). Hildreth also led the Cougars with six rebound. Schuler added three steals and three assists.

For the Trojans (2-0), Alyssa Kirk had a game-best 15 points, while Donna Lavea came away with 13 points. Dwayana Pullum pulled down a game-best seven rebounds.

Up next for the Cougars is a trip to York, Neb., to face York College (1-2). York defeated GPAC team Dakota Wesleyan tonight. Tip-off is set for Friday evening, November 6, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
