The Sioux Falls Stampede announced today that forward Josh Holmstrom has committed to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell for the 2010-11 season. Holmstrom becomes the 12th Stampede player to commit to a Division I program this season.
The Colorado Springs, CO native is in his second season with the Herd. He has posted 10 points (2g, 8a) and is a plus-2 in 16 games this season. Last year, Holmstrom recorded 25 points (14g,11a) in 58 games for the Herd.
Holmstrom becomes the second player this month to commit to UMass-Lowell. Defenseman Chad Ruhwedel committed earlier in November. Josh’s older brother, Ben, was a captain for the Stampede and is currently a captain in his senior season at UMass-Lowell. Ben played in Sioux Falls from 2003 to 2006 and was captain of the Herd's Anderson Cup championship team in 2006.
UMass-Lowell is located in Lowell, Massachusetts and has an enrollment of 6,000. The River Hawks are members of the Hockey East Conference and are currently 8-2-1 on the season. They travel to Providence tomorrow (Tuesday) before returning home on Friday to host Maine.
Holmstrom and the Stampede return to action this Thursday night for a special Thanksgiving night tilt against I-29 rival Sioux City at 7:05 PM.
