Matt Bailey tallied two goals and an assist while Ryan Misiak and Michael Voran each had a goal and an assist as the Stamped topped Sioux City 7-3 Saturday night in Sioux Falls. The win improved the Herd’s record to 6-1-2 on the year and moved them within two points of first place Omaha. Clay Witt earned the win in goal, stopping 21 shots on the night.
After a slow start to the game for both teams, the Herd rattled off three goals in the final six minutes of the period. Bailey got things going at 14:01 when he one-timed a pass from Josh Holmstrom into the back of the net to give the Herd a 1-0 lead. Michael Voran followed that up with a goal just over a minute later when he beat out an icing call and scored on a wrap-around to make it 2-0. Dan Furlong finished off the scoring at 19:03, on the powerplay when he blasted a shot from the right point to make it a 3-0 game.
The Stampede added to their lead just 4:02 into the second when Jacob Johnstone knocked in a rebound to give the Stampede a 4-0 lead. Anthony Day fired a shot from the slot that clanked off the post, but Johnstone picked up the rebound and put it away to make it 4-0. Right when it appeared the Stampede would run away with the game, the Musketeers responded with three unanswered goals, two of which came from Adam Schmidt.
The Herd regrouped in the locker room in between periods and got things rolling 3:24 into the period on a powerplay goal by Bailey. It appeared the Stampede would be on the penalty kill to start on a check from behind on Voran, but Voran was mugged after the play by Chase Drake who was given a fighting major and instigator which sent him to the showers early. That changed the momentum back into the Stampede’s favor. Ryan Misiak gave the Stampede some cushion 11:57 when he took a perfect pass from Darnell who danced his way past two defenders to make it a 6-3 game. Matt Farris added his first of the season at 16:20 and the Stampede picked up their second straight win.
The Stampede out shot Sioux City 28-24 on the night and finished 2 for 7 on the powerplay while the Muskies were also 2 for 7. The Stampede continue their nine-game homestand next Friday and Saturday when they host Tri-City and Indiana at 7:05 PM.
