A wish was granted over the skies of Sioux Falls Thursday night thanks to the Crooks Christmas light display and Strawbale Winery's popular 'Twilight Flights.'

The unmistakable sound of helicopter blades cutting through the night sky is becoming a holiday tradition at the Strawbale Winery in Renner.

"It's nice to see something come together like this," Don South owner of Strawbale Winery said.

Eleven-year-old Heather Hoy boarded a helicopter for the first time in her life Thursday night with her mother and friend Sean Murphy.

"I liked it more because I got to share my experience with other people too," Hoy said.

For the last three years the Strawbale Winery has given guests helicopter rides over Falls Park and the Crooks Christmas light display. This year the creator of Crooks Christmas and the owner of the winery took a ride together and got an idea.

"Put one and one together, it's like well okay, they are raising money for Make-A-Wish and it's really a spectacular view from up there, so let's see if somebody wants to do it," South said.

The Make-A-Wish organization picked Hoy to hop in the helicopter. She's been living with a heart condition ever since she was young, receiving a pacemaker when she was four years old and a new one when she was eight to help her heart beat normally.

"I really appreciate it that they put their money toward that. They made me really happy and they made me stop thinking about my illnesses and stuff while I was up in the helicopter. It was really fun," Hoy said.

"I think it's really caring and respectful that they would give money for somebody to do this," Hoy's friend Sean Murphy said.

Giving an 11-year-old girl a sky-high ride she'll never forget.

"It was a one in a lifetime chance that you would have never thought how pretty Sioux Falls was," Hoy said.

Hoy says she always wanted to take a helicopter ride and when she found out Make-A-Wish had lined one up for her she called everyone she knew because she was so excited.

So far this year Crooks Christmas has raised more than 65 hundred dollars for the organization.
