His name became a household one across the state, at least in rodeo homes when authorities arrested him after they say he stole and then abused a barrel racing horse.

Twenty-two-year-old Flint Dahl was back in court Monday with four open cases in Stanley County and charges ranging from grand theft to ingesting marijuana.

Authorities say he threatened a law enforcement officer at the end of August. According to court papers, he was verbally abusive toward law enforcement.

And it didn't take long for his next run-in with the law.

At the beginning of September, an incident left him facing charges of hit and run property damage, reckless driving and failure to report an accident. Court papers in that case say he hit a utility pole and left the scene.

Those two incidents happened after the theft and abuse of barrel racing horse Dually but before he faced charges in the case.

After he turned himself into the Stanley County sheriff for the Dually case, he was released on $5,000 bond. Conditions to the bond included no alcohol or drug use.

Law enforcement says Dahl was speeding earlier this month, and according to court papers, that’s when authorities learned he had been drinking and using marijuana. He also didn't have the proper license for the vehicle he was driving.

Dahl's father said on the phone Monday that his son is a good young man and he'll work his way through this.

The judge has ordered Dahl be held without bond after he violated the conditions of his last bond.
He'll be in court again for all four of his cases December 8.
