The Hurley man who had his dogs taken away is getting some of the animals back and he is speaking out for the first time.

Dan Christensen had 172 of his hunting dogs taken away by the Humane Society of the United States and Second Chance Rescue back in September.

During motions hearings Friday in Turner County, a judge ruled that Christensen should get custody of some of the puppies.

Judge Tami Bern says Second Chance has no court order to hold the new litters because they were born after the raid, so Christensen deserves to have them back. A lot of the new puppies have been fostered out. 

"I want to say to the people who have fostered our puppies is that I appreciate the care they're giving them, at least they are getting taken care of versus what they're getting at Second Chance," Christensen said.

The total number of puppies Christensen will eventually get back amounts to about 100, once they are all old enough to be weaned off their mothers. Meantime, Christensen continues to fight to get all the dogs back because he claims they were taken illegally.
