The Marshall County Sheriff is asking for the public's help to find a driver who hit a pedestrian in Britton and drove off Saturday night.
Fifty-year-old David Christenson of Britton was in guarded condition at a Fargo hospital Monday. His family wasn’t releasing information about his injuries at that time.
With the Highway Patrol and Division of Criminal Investigation helping out, the search for any clues to the driver who hit Christenson and then ran continues.
"We're not coming up with any answers at this time," Marshall County Sheriff Dale Elsen said.
Elsen said the only evidence investigators have to go on are tire tracks, two brake marks and Christenson's injuries.
Based on that, Elsen said it appears the driver hit Christenson from behind, causing him to land on the hood or windshield. The driver then stopped abruptly, causing him to roll off before the driver took off westbound.
"I want the person responsible to come in and turn themself in," Elsen said.
Christenson was eating at a restaurant in Britton with family and friends Saturday night and left to walk home some time around 10:00. Shortly before 10:30 p.m., the sheriff's department received a report of a man lying in the street.
Keith Beck is a neighbor of Christenson and drove up to the scene around the same time as the sheriff's deputy. His reaction is similar to many people's reaction in the area.
"It's just unfortunate that it happens, number one. And it's sad that somebody would just leave him there, lying there," Beck said.
Beck joins many waiting for answers, especially considering the type of man he says Christenson is.
"Great guy, easy going, never causing any problems," Beck said.
Investigators don't have a specific car they're looking for but say evidence leads them to believe it's a small to mid-sized vehicle.
The sheriff also says anyone is a suspect at this time. But it happened on a side street so he suspects it's someone from the area.
