Two Pine Ridge Women Plead Guilty To School Theft

Two Pine Ridge women have pleaded guilty to stealing from the Red Cloud Indian School's Heritage Center on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

January sentencing dates are set for 37-year-old Dana Lonehill and 30-year-old Elmarie Tobacco Thunderhawk. They pleaded guilty to larceny and aiding and abetting. Lonehill managed the Heritage Center and Tobacco hunderhawk was an assistant.

Federal prosecutors said they stole by purporting to sell items to the gift shop and by writing advance checks for items never delivered. The estimated loss was $18,000. Court proceedings against a third defendant are pending.
