Dell Rapids Elementary School is crowded. Four trailers are set up outside to accommodate the growth.
"We are at 173 percent of what the intended capacity of that building is," Dell Rapids school board member Steven Munk said.
Which is why Munk says voters need to support a new elementary school.
"Every time we hold one of these bond elections, we learn a little more as far as how can we effectively communicate the information to the general public," Munk said.
Dell Rapids voters have headed to the polls three times and each time, the issue was voted down. For the fourth vote, school officials made additional changes. They shaved the price tag of the proposed elementary school from $13.4 million down to $10.9 million. They also reduced the school's size more than 3,200 square feet. Munk hopes these changes will persuade voters.
"It's more of a hardship for the students. As board members, we move on and say what can we do once again or the next round to try to address this need," Munk said. For the future site of the new Dell Rapids elementary school to happen, school officials need 60 percent of voters in favor for construction to begin.
"The need is there. The need has not gone away what so ever. We just hope the patrons understand this is probably one of the best opportune times to get a building built at a lower cost, a lower interest rate and less cost to them as taxpayers," Munk said.
Voters head to the polls Monday. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
