It's a day to thank veterans for all their service to our country and schools across KELOLAND took part Wednesday.
The sounds in the Wagner school theatre all signaled a community's thanks for veterans on their day. Norm Cihak of Dante served in the 60s and appreciates the recognition.
"Well I think it's great for the students to get involved, for the younger people to get involved and honor and respect the veterans not just on Veterans Day but every day throughout their lives," Cihak said.
Courtney Krcil agrees. The Wagner senior was one of the students leading the program and had one main goal for people as they left.
"Knowing what the veterans went through and that we really do need to thank them and not take for granted what they did for us," Krcil said.
But at the same time Krcil only understands to a degree what she's hoping people thank the veterans for.
"There's movies, there's speeches but I don't think anything could really show us what they really experienced," Krcil said.
Still, applause of gratitude rang from students as they recognized veterans one by one, veterans like Merrill DeWald who served in World War II.
"Well it's nice that they do it. We're not looking for any praise. We came back; that's the main thing," DeWald said.
But he also knows so many didn't and joined all the veterans and any others in the Wagner School theatre in thanking them too.
The school also recognized some of its current students who have joined the military and former students now serving overseas.
