A South Dakota National Guard unit that had been a combat unit now has its first female members.

The former Battery C of the 147th Field Artillery's 2nd Battalion of Redfield officially became Company A of the 139th Brigade Support Battalion in September.

Now, four of its 43 soldiers in Redfield are females.  The battalion, headquartered in Brookings, also has detachments in Watertown and Miller.
