South Dakota's Department of Health has shipped out more than 62,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine all across the state. Health officials with the Sioux Falls clinic could give out roughly 3,100 doses of those vaccines Thursday.
The interest in last week's vaccine clinic wasn't as big as staff had hoped but by looking at the number of people at this week's clinic, it may tell a very different story.
A siren brought in the masses. Child after child, parent after parent made their way inside. They're crowds, staff say, they expected this time around.
"Actually, we believe that we will have a very good turnout today," Vice President of Sanford Clinic Terri Carlson said.
Carlson is helping run the clinic and making sure it runs as smoothly as last week's even when they're anticipating even more children.
"The H1N1 virus, that's where it's a little bit sneaky, is that it really has been targeting the sometimes virtually very healthy individual, also the younger patient population," Carlson said.
More staff were brought in to manage the influx of people and more vaccine. Each table is color coded to send those in this tier one group to the right place.
Carlson says it seems people are getting the message that they need to get vaccinated, even if it seems the virus is slowing down around the country.
"Most pandemics have three waves and the first wave hit last spring. The second wave hit this fall and we anticipate a third wave of H1N1 flu to hit roughly around the February time frame. So we really do encourage people to get the vaccine still and not think that it's over," Carlson said.
