Three of the state's nine documented H1N1 deaths have occurred in Pennington County, and people there are not taking any chances when it comes to the virus.

Children six months to four years were joined by pregnant women, health and emergency services workers and those with chronic health problems.  They all spent the afternoon waiting to receive the H1N1 vaccination.

"We're expecting to see several hundreds. We've had a very good turnout," Sandra Ogunremi of Regional Health said.

So good, many had to wait in line outside, including Susan Pederson and her granddaughter, Ruby, who had heart surgery as an infant.

"I am a firm believer in getting your shots and everything, so, I feel that way about this, too," Pederson said.

State statistics show it is important. So far, more than 150 people in Pennington County have been confirmed with the illness, at least 40 have been hospitalized and three have died.

"We just don't want to push it.  You know, with them getting anything and getting sick. Or me getting sick because I'm their caregiver," Pederson said.

Regional Health has received around 4,000 doses of the vaccine, and officials say it's critical that people get in to clinics like this one.

"Anytime they hear there's an H1N1 clinic, we want them to get vaccinated," Ogunremi said.

Stopping the spread of the flu by preventing people from getting it in the first place.

Regional Health has scheduled another clinic for Thursday in Sturgis at the Community Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
