A significant storm is moving toward KELOLAND, and heavy rain and snow will be in the forecast.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for much of western South Dakota, including Rapid City. A Winter Storm Watch has also been posted for Pierre and Mobridge. Areas of snow will develop today in southwest South Dakota and are expected to expand by Wednesday night. Look for showers in central South Dakota throughout Wednesday as temperatures stay above freezing in the 40s.
Snow will be likely Wednesday night in Rapid City, with areas of rain developing in the east. Heavy rain will be more likely Thursday morning in central South Dakota, while heavy snow will be likely in the west.
Strong northwest winds will develop on the back side of the system will also create blowing and drifting snow. Again, we’ll be giving you the latest updates through the day as the details become better defined.
Sioux Falls and the southeast will just see rain from this storm. Some thunderstorm activity is possible Thursday morning as well. Rainfall totals of .50”-1” are likely in the southeast.
Watertown and Aberdeen will start with rain Wednesday afternoon and evening, with a chance of snow by Thursday and Friday morning. Most of the snow potential should stay west of the James River Valley.
The weekend is looking chilly with highs in the 30s and 40s on Saturday.
