A decade after the Learjet carrying pro-golfer Payne Stewart and five others crashed in northeastern South Dakota, the memories linger.
Investigators said the plane lost cabin pressure and all on board died after losing consciousness for lack of oxygen. The aircraft flew for several hours on autopilot before running out of fuel and crashing near Aberdeen in October 1999.
It was devastating news for golf enthusiast Mike Derby, who had watched Stewart play just a few months earlier at the Masters.
Derby says "there were definitely some tears," and it was a sad day for golfers.
Stewart's plane had taken off from Florida for a tournament in Texas.
