Boy Scouts have given the Brandon Area Food Pantry a big boost. Now, scouts are helping to make a major move possible.

More than 150 people lined up outside the Brandon Area Food Pantry to help unload donations.

Local Boy Scouts collected the food as part of their annual Make a Difference Day. Scout Master Bruce Berger says it's a good lesson for the boys.

"You give the boys the idea that if you help others, that's a good thing," Berger said.

But unloading donations wasn't the only reason volunteers came out in force. They helped the food pantry move into its new building down the street.

The new building is almost five times bigger than the one the pantry is in now. Executive Director Linda Weber says that makes a big difference.

"We will be able to get two or three families in there shopping at the same time whereas now we only can get one family in," Weber said.

One volunteer says it feels good to give back.

"It felt really good actually to help out the community and everything like that,” Brandon Valley High School senior Adam Zabih said. “It’s good just to be out here as a team helping out everybody."

And it wasn't just the kids who're having a good time.

"How much fun is this?” Berger said. “This is great."

Volunteers came from Boy Scout troops, local churches, and the Brandon Valley High School.

The food pantry hopes to open the new location's doors in about a month, just in time for Thanksgiving.
