Four South Dakota projects will use just over $800,000 in federal grants to improve and promote highways designated as scenic byways.

The federal highway administrator says they're among 160 projects in 43 states receiving more than $40 million.
The Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway will use $536,000 on resource protection and nearly $130,000 on safety improvements and resource protection at the Wrinkled Rock Climbing Area.

At the Earthlodge Villages of the Native American Scenic Byway, nearly $110,000 will go toward preserving and interpreting cultural heritage and more than $31,000 will cover facility enhancement. The grants are part of the Federal Highway Administration's National Scenic Byways Program.
